If you happen to be in New Orleans, we’ve got a few parties to celebrate the release of our latest, UNLOCK YOUR MIND, coming out on the Rounder label later this month. See the poster below for our Tipitina’s bash.
But if you can’t make it there, we’ve got some great gigs lined up so you can celebrate the album with us up close and personal. We’ve got some great new songs and the same in-your-face, ferocious funk mixed with second-line beats, hip-hop, rock ‘n brass. Check out our Concerts page. You can also always preorder the album at Amazon.
We were in London for their Jazz Fest recently and John Fordham of the Guardian [UK] had a chance to check us out. Here’s his review:
Anyone who heard the Soul Rebels Brass Band play the 2010 London Jazz festival won’t need reminding of the jubilant charisma of this New Orleans ensemble, and the impact of its mix of the rootsiest early jazz with hip-hop, funk, ska and R&B. The Soul Rebels return to the LJF next month, promoting the more vocals-angled music from this party-powered album – equally effervescent guests include singer/drummer Cyril Neville, former Lenny Kravitz sideman Trombone Shorty, and Meters guitarist Leo Nocentelli. You won’t find complicated, destination-disguising improvisations here, but a jazz spirit inspires the group, and their raw power is pretty faithfully caught on disc. The repertoire is broad, from the Latin-funky Sweet Dreams Are Made of This, through the Caribbean feel of the title track, the smoky soul-sax sound of I’m So Confused, and the marching-band crackle and yelping brass riffs of Living for the City – a title that conveys what fuels the Soul Rebels’ universal charm.
If that doesn’t entice you out of your comfy couch and get on downtown to our gigs, well, then, you can always just put on the CD loud and have your own personal Soul Rebels Unlock Your Mind Party with you and yours, and, if loud enough, your neighbors.
